RESIDENTS of Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) as well as those living on the islands of Leguan and Wakenaam will be able to sleep better at nights, thanks to a heightening of police presence in every community.

According to Commander of ‘G’ Division, Khali Parsashram, specially attired ranks will be placed at various police stations along the coast, and will be using bicycles to patrol the various villages.

He said it is hoped that in this way there would be an improvement in the relationship between the police and residents in the various communities.

The 24 ranks who have been hand-picked for the job received their new uniforms on Thursday, and will be easily identified from afar by the word ‘POLICE’ emblazoned in white across their chest.

Commander Parsashram said bicycle patrols are not new, as they were first introduced years ago in an effort to enhance the relationship between community and Force, as well as to ensure safety and security.

Team-policing, which plays an integral role in the force, Parsashram said, will also be enhanced with ranks riding through the villages.

“Ranks with the uniforms will be more visible in the communities; persons will have them within their reach.
“It’s all part of the force’s efforts of ehancing it’s crime-fighting strategy,” the commander said.

Many of the ranks will be seen especially in and around the commercial areas safeguarding businesses.

Ranks recently benefitted from local training by force trainers who were trained in the United States of America. They are now better equipped with the necessary knowledge to deal with crime.
