Persaud emerges as overall winner at GABBFF’s Novices Championships

… Dakhil cops Men’s Physique, De Sousa is Ms Bikini

WHEN the smoke cleared at the end of a night of sizzling competition, Sudarshanand Persaud emerged as the overall winner of the Guyana Amateur Body Building and Fitness Federation’s (GABBFF) Novices Championships, held at the National Cultural Centre (NCC) on Sunday night.

A capacity crowd was not disappointed especially with the fiery opening segment of the Championships, the Ms Bikini category.
Seven graceful, well-proportioned and well-toned beauties took the opening hour of the show to steamy heights as they strode around the stage with various poses much to the delight of the crowd.

In the end Space Gym’s 20-year-old beauty Diciula De Sousa did enough for the judges and the crowd to be crowned GABBFF’s Ms Bikini for the Novices Championships 2018 while her fellow gym partner Angelia Barrones was second.

Over in the Men’s Physique category another Space Gym athlete, Tariq Dakhil, came out on top ahead of six others including his gym partner Renaldo Caldeira who settled for second. Dakhil exhibited a lean, well-chiselled physique with the right balance, symmetry and tone for the judges to hand him the win.

Meanwhile, over in the bantamweight category, the Fitness 53 athlete Persaud eclipsed his four competitors to top the judges’ cards and claim the bantamweight trophy as well as the overall winner title of the competition.

He sported impressive muscle mass with a ripped physique and a good balance to edge second-placed Pierre Wagner.
In the welterweight category GDF’s Odwin Yansen and Donston Richmond were first and second place in that order while Allan Savory of Flex Gym was the top bodybuilder in the Masters’ category.

Vishaw Rambarran was the best Junior bodybuilder ahead of Lakeram Seewaram.
Speaking to Chronicle Sport, GABBFF president Coel Marks noted that the event was a huge success and a step in the right direction/ He applauded the athletes’ enthusiasm and efforts at the competition, pointing out that the turnout of athletes was tremendous.
He also expressed gratitude to the fans who attended in their numbers to show their support for the athletes and the GABBFF event.

“I think things went smoothly and our athletes and the entertainment on show gave patrons their money’s worth”.
