JAGDESH MOHANLALL, seven, who was struck down by a car driven by an Essequibo businessman on Tuesday, died as a result of multiple injuries, an autopsy which was conducted by government pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh indicated.
The autopsy was done at the Suddie mortuary on Thursday. The 42-year-old businessman, who is a boat owner, was identified as Gobin Chandrika. He is still in police custody awaiting charges.
Reports alleged that the motorcar was proceeding in a southerly direction on the eastern lane of the road at a fast rate of speed when the boy ran from a yard on the eastern side onto the road and into the path of the motorcar.
The driver said he applied brakes to avoid a collision but still struck down the youth. Mohanlall was picked up in a semi-conscious condition by the driver and taken to the Suddie Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Family members are still in a state of shock at the manner in which the boy died and are calling on the police to launch a thorough investigation into the matter.
