THE hunt for a new winner in the Milo Schools Football tournament is on, with the finalists to be decided today at the Ministry of Education ground.
2017 finalists Chase were booted out last weekend along with second-place Morgan Learning Centre in the quarter-finals last weekend, leaving the tournament wide open for new champions.
A protest was made against Pure Masters Academy by Lodge Secondary School whom they defeated 2-0 in their quarterfinal match at the Ministry of Education (MoE) ground last weekend, and the private institution were found guilty of fielding a player under the name of another and as such the protest was upheld.
With this ruling by the organisers of the tournament, which is also sponsored by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) under the theme: ‘Stop gender-based violence’, Lodge Secondary will now clash with Sir Leon Lessons in the feature semifinal game from 17:30hrs.
Leon Lessons will be extra confident of getting past Lodge after needling the three-time defending champions, Chase Academic Foundation in their quarter-final match-up last weekend.
Today’s opening fixture which kicks off at 15:30hrs will be a mouthwatering clash between East Coast football giants Buxton Youth Development and Annandale Secondary.
Annandale, led by Troni Semple with a brace, had the honour of booting last year’s losing finalists Morgan’s Learning Centre 2-0 in their quarte-rfinal match last week Sunday. Meanwhile, Buxton will be aiming to continue unscathed with a tidy win in the semifinal match.
The teams will be matching skills for a total of $1.1M which will go towards a project of the school’s choice. The prize money will see the top school receive $500 000, second-place $300 000, third $200 000 and fourth $100 000.
