Remanded after explanation

A 19-year-old boy was yesterday remanded to prison on a simple larceny charge
He is Amstel Bacchus, a bus conductor of Sophia.

It is alleged that on March 4 at Camp Street, Georgetown, in the company of others, he robbed Susan Griffith of one leather bag which contained one umbrella, one Samsung Galaxy phone worth $20,000 and $10,000 in cash.
Bacchus pleaded guilty to the charge with an explanation.

He said he and a friend were walking along North Road when two strange boys came in front of them and took the items. The woman began to scream for help and some men armed with cutlasses chased after them.

After Magistrate Fabayo Azore listened to the explanation, she entered a not guilty plea.
Bail was refused and Bacchus was remanded to prison. The matter was adjourned for March 28.
