A 65-year-old woman was Monday remanded to prison while her 25-year-old son was granted bail when they both appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on separate drug charges.
Bernadette Robertson was first called to answer to the charge which alleged that on February 15 at Lot 90 North Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden, she had 94.2 grams of cannabis in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Her son, Cosburn Robertson was charged with having 14.2 grams of cannabis in his possession on the same day in question.
The Robertsons denied the charges while their attorney, Gordon Gilhuys made an application for bail.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that on the day in question, the police acting on information, made contact with Bernadette.
The woman reportedly took the police into the kitchen and handed over the parcel of cannabis and told the ranks: “I does sell weed to pay my bills”.
Meanwhile, Cosburn was busted with the drugs in his bedroom.
The magistrate remanded the elderly woman to prison and released her son on $$75,000 bail. The matter was also transferred to the Linden Magistrate’s Court for March 13.
