Teen murder accused committed to stand trial

TWO youths were on Monday committed to stand trial at the High Court for the murder of a 16-year-old boy who was fatally stabbed during a school concert at Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara, in April 2017.

Andy Daniel Peters, 18, and Shannon Cox, 21, were committed by Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman when the preliminary inquiry (PI) into the matter came to an end at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The duo is charged with killing 16-year-old Brian Charles on April 29.
The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vishnu Hunt, during his submission to the court, explained that based upon police investigations prior to the incident, Peters and the victim had an altercation the day before his death, over Charles’ bicycle accidently hitting Peters at Grove, E.B.D.

However, on April 29th the two defendants, along with two other friends, were at a fair when they saw Charles.
It is alleged that Peters walked up to Charles and asked him: “You is na that boy from the other night” then suddenly Cox was seen in a stooped position.

Hunt further submitted that the two friends told the police that Cox told them: “My knife have blood on it, we can’t stay”.
It is alleged that Cox stabbed the 16-year-old several times.

The teen was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre but was pronounced dead on arrival. The police recovered a knife at the home of the 21-year-old suspect.
