A 27-year-old Wisroc, Linden, taxi driver was on Wednesday charged and released on $500,000 for causing the death of a 64-year-old pedal cyclist during an accident along the Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara last year.

Keon Haynes appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and denied that on August 23, 2017 at Grove Public Road, he drove HC 3809 in a dangerous manner, thereby causing the death of George Klass.

Attorney James Bond represented Haynes and made an application for reasonable bail.
However, Police Prosecutor, Arwin Moore objected to bail on the grounds that Haynes, on the day in question, saw the elderly man attempting to cross the road with his bike and still proceeded at a fast rate which resulted in Klass sustaining severe head injuries to which he later succumbed.

The chief magistrate released Haynes on $500,000 bail and suspended his driver’s licence until the completion of the trial. The matter was adjourned until January 17, 2018.
