ON Wednesday at the Leonora Magistrates Court, Magistrate Rushell Liverpool dismissed the case against fish trader, Mohamed Alli, called “Panta”, who was charged for being in possession of nine kilos of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Alli, 51, of La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara was accused of being in possession of 9.044 kilograms of cocaine on June 7, 2016 at Windsor Forest, West Coast Demerara, for the purpose of trafficking.
Magistrate Liverpool ruled in favour of attorney Bernard DaSilva’s no-case submission on the grounds that the prosecution had failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt the elements of possession.
Alli’s two children, Shafaur, 27, and Lazeena Imrazi, 22, were freed in relation to the said charge in June by City Magistrate Leron Daly in relation to the drugs which were found in June 2016 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).
Upon arrival at the airport, they declared 33 boxes of fish to be exported. But when Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) officials searched the boxes, they found the illegal substance in the fish.
CANU ranks were able to arrest Mohammed Ali after a wanted bulletin was issued for his arrest in July 2016 for his connection to the drug bust at the airport.
