THREE persons, among them two teens, were jointly charged with the murder of 21-year-old Mahendra Ghanie called “Azad.”
Ghanie’s mutilated and burnt remains were found in two shallow graves at Number 55 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
Bharrat Ramsarwack called “Bobby” (44), Mohanlall Sewsankar (19) and another teen (16), appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the Springlands’ Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
The unrepresented trio were not required to plead to the indictable charge. The charge stated that between Monday, October 2 and Friday October 6, at Number 55 Village, the trio murdered Ghanie.
According to reports, one of the men reportedly told investigators that they lured the young man to his employer’s home at Number 55 Village where they beat him and then dumped his body in a hole, before it was burnt beyond recognition. They then removed the partly burnt body from one shallow grave and dumped it into another where it continued to burn, this time until it was reduced to ash. The employer, Bharrat Ramsarwack, told the investigators that the young man had stolen two goats from him.

As the men made their way outside the courtroom, the family members of Ghanie were unable to contain their emotions. Fazil Ghanie, the father of Azad asked plaintively: “Which one of y’all kill me son”?
Without showing any emotion or remorse Ramsarwack shouted: “Is me kill he ! Is me kill he!”
Another relative of Ghanie who was among the search party that discovered the remains of the murdered young man, was also threatened in the presence of police officers at the Springlands Police Station.
The three men are expected to make their second court appearance on October 18, next. The teen has been sent to a juvenile holding centre while Ramsarwack and Sewsankar were remanded to prison.
Meanwhile, the relatives of Ghanie are appealing for financial assistance to offset his funeral expenses. Persons desirous of assisting can call them on 602-3746 or 603-9349.
