A REPEAT “Driving under the influence of alcohol” offender was on Wednesday suspended from driving for the next 12 months and also fined $7,500 by Her Worship, Miss Christel Lambert, at the Bartica Magistrates Court.

The police said in a release that taxi driver, Solomon Stoby, 58 years, of Mongrippa Hill, Bartica, was first charged on February 18, 2017. He pleaded guilty and was fined $7,500 and his licence was endorsed. On Friday, September 1, 2017, Stoby who owns and operates motor car HC 2999 was stopped at Fifth Avenue, Bartica, during a routine stop-and-search operation.

The slurred speech and the strong smell of alcohol on the driver’s breath caused an officer to administer a breathalyzer test, which confirmed their suspicion; he had .122 micrograms. The legal limit is .035 micrograms.
