THE beauty of the Gold Coast is what the design of the 2018 Commonwealth Games Baton signifies, as it travels across the various destinations according to Keri Alga, one of the members travelling with the Baton.

Alga was explaining this on Tuesday evening at a reception to mark the Baton’s Guyana leg at the British High Commissioner Greg Quinn’s residence in Georgetown.
She contended that the Baton, “is made using macadamia wood and recycled plastic, sourced from Gold Coast waterways. The Baton’s design has been inspired by the region’s “vibrant spirit and indigenous heritage” and with sustainability in mind.”
She noted that the Baton, which toured Kaieteur Falls, Annai and Surama, yesterday, also shows the fluid and lively motion of the people of the Gold Coast.
In his opening remarks, His Excellency Quinn contended, “I have no doubt, showing loyalty to Australia here that my friends will put on an even better show than the Glasgow regions and the UK did.”

Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) president KA Juman Yassin commended all who turned out to take part in the relay on Tuesday, adding that Guyana is always open to hosting the Baton.
Minister of Business Dominic Gaskin, in his remarks reminded that the bond between sport and unity is one strengthened by acts of this nature.
The Baton, synonymous with the Commonwealth Games 2018 was specially designed to reflect the Gold Coast.
It also holds a message written by Queen Elizabeth II which will be unveiled at the opening of the Games in April in Australia.
On Commonwealth Day, March 13 this year, the Gold Coast Queen’s Baton Relay was launched at Buckingham Palace, signalling the start of the Commonwealth Games which will be held in April 2018 in Australia.
Kerry Thompson heads the Baton delegation, along with Richard Hahn and Alga, all of Australia, and Colin Macpherson of Scotland .
