A BERBICE man was on Monday placed on $200,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after being charged with possession of narcotic for the purpose of trafficking.
The allegation stated that Seon Mickle, 25, on May 31 this year had in his possession 1261 grams of cannabis at First Avenue, Bartica.
Police prosecutor Alvin Moore strongly opposed bail, on the grounds that the defendant, who was not represented, did not mention any special reason to the court for bail to be granted.
The prosecutor said that Mickle was given a caution statement, after which he admitted that the haversack in which the drugs were found was his.
In spite of the prosecutor’s objection, however, and more likely in light of recent developments at the Georgetown Prison, Magistrate McLennan granted the defendant bail.
The matter has been adjourned until July 21.
