FOOD For The Poor (FFTP) Guyana Inc, on Monday made a donation of more than two truckloads of medical equipment and supplies to the New Amsterdam Hospital for distribution to health institutions in the 31 locations within Region Six.
During the presentation in the compound of FFTP at Blue Mountain Road, North Ruimveldt, Chief Executive Officer, Kent Vincent, first acknowledged with gratitude the items sent by mega donors in the United States to FFTP to help the health sector in Guyana. He said what was being rolled out was but just a part of FFTP’s promise to make ongoing distributions in Guyana. “Today we are making a very large donation of a quantity of items to the New Amsterdam Hospital, including donations of pharmaceuticals, which will include syringes, orthopaedic supplies, examination tables, walkers, surgical instruments, dental equipment and other medical supplies as you can see,” Vincent said. He said FFTP was very pleased to make this donation to benefit the people of Region Six.
Director of Health Services, (DHS) Region Six, Jevaughn Stephens, expressed gratitude to Kent Vincent and FFTP, on behalf of his region. However, the director sought to set the record straight, stating: “I would want to assure you and the media, that it is not only New Amsterdam Hospital that will benefit from this donation, but all 27 health centres in Region Six; three district hospitals; two national hospitals and New Amsterdam being the Referral Hospital in the region. It is almost 31 locations that will benefit from these donations and it will also improve the lives of some 109,000 persons living in Region Number Six.
“We are very grateful and want to keep our partnership with Food for the Poor very healthy, so that more of these donations can come our way,” Mr Stephens gratefully concluded.
