I started the month with phenomenal young men and women from all walks of life but who have one thing in common: they all want to do more to contribute in a positive way to their communities and country, once given the opportunity. We spent two evenings chatting about where we are now and where we want to go. What I enjoyed the most is how people sensed it was a safe place and felt comfortable to share intimate life stories. We began studying The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John Maxwell, who also happens to be my mentor.
From just reviewing the workbook information, persons were recognising the value of the application of these laws. They were identifying the changes they need to make to their personal and professional lives in order to increase their leadership potential.
I was looking at them with great admiration as each had a law to teach. I remembered the words of Maxwell himself, who said, “Growth is the great separator between those who succeed and those who do not. When I see a person beginning to separate themselves from the pack, it’s almost always due to personal growth.”
The next day, I spent some time at the Business School with some younger men and women who were absolutely stunning and bright, but a little shy. I embarked on a Beyond the Runway school tour earlier this year and it was an honour to introduce ‘Confidence Becomes you! Personal practice for prosperous pursuits’, to the children at the Business School.
It is always a great feeling when not only the children share how the information impacted them tremendously but the teachers also. I encouraged the children to be passionate. The Business School is collaborating with the Sonia Noel Foundation for Creative Arts for Fashion Designing and Etiquette summer courses. If you want to make your summer exciting and are interested, contact The Business School because spaces are limited. Every day, we should aspire to give the world the best version of ourselves and we discussed that today.
Confidence becomes you! was also extended to adults. Participants range from from business women to persons desirous of starting a business. The modules were extended to professional practices too.
One of the many takeaways for businesses was that the attitude of the leader affects the atmosphere of the office. If you desire to add value by serving others, you will become a better leader.
Those who work under you will achieve more, develop more loyalty, and have a better time getting things done than you ever thought possible.
The climax to my weekend was the up-cycling classes for per?sons living with disabilities from the David Rose School for Special Needs and Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre.
I have been working for years with people from the disabled communities and I am very passionate about their wellbeing.
I challenge you today to contribute in a positive way to someone’s life.
“People who add value to others do so intentionally. I say that because to add value, leaders must give of themselves, and that rarely occurs by accident.”-John C. Maxwell
Let’s encourage each other to do something life changing today.
