THE Ministry of Education/National Sports Commission (NSC) recently conducted a three three-day cricket coaching workshop at Pour Mourant cricket ground for teachers of Secondary Schools in Region #6.
The programme, which concluded last Thursday, saw male and female teachers from 20 schools drawn from New Amsterdam to Crabwood Creek, tutored on the basics of cricket.
Sessions were conducted by former Guyana national female and NSC Level One cricket coach Latchman Yadram.

Teachers actively involved in the lecture.

In the three-day foundation of the coaching workshop teachers were actively involved in lectures and several practical sessions. The participants were schooled in the basic roles of a coach, coaching styles and principles, understanding coaching objectives, warm-up, batting, bowling and fielding techniques.
According to Yadram, “Women’s cricket is growing, and the presence of these teachers shows that development of the game is necessary.”
Yadram also urged the teachers to organise and manage sessions in schools for the growth of the game.
Carl Vanier of Corentyne Comprehensive said, “The programme was informative and it will benefit not only the teachers but the students and he hopes to use the skills learnt to better equip his students.”
All participating schools received a Cricket Coaching Manuel for Schools.
