THE Government of Guyana has expressed its appreciation to the 21 departing Cuban health professionals who have completed their tenure in the local health sector.
Minister within the Ministry of Public Health Dr Karen Cummings, expressed the government’s appreciation to the departing batch at a farewell ceremony last evening at the Regency Suites, Hadfield Street. “It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I stand before you this evening to express thanks to you on behalf of the Government and people of Guyana. The services you have provided to the Guyanese people during your stay here can never be understated,” the minister said.
She noted that the bilateral relations between the two countries have been beneficial, especially in enhancing and preserving lives through the work that they undertook. Minister Cummings said that she is satisfied with the work done by the health professionals, especially with their profound proficiency within certain fields.
The minister stressed that the government looks forward to more collaborative support from the Cuban government, especially in the field of medicine. Additionally, Ambassador of Cuba to Guyana Julio Cesar Gonzalez Marchante, told the health professionals that returning to their homeland with their duty fulfilled is considered to be highly rewarding.
The Ambassador applauded the Ministry of Public Health for giving Cuban nationals the opportunity to contribute and raise the living standards of the people of Guyana by providing proper healthcare. Last month, the minister highlighted that the work of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Guyana has paved the way for other initiatives that will enhance efforts to further modernise and improve the healthcare system. “We at the Ministry of Public Health recognise the intrinsic role Cuban healthcare professionals have played, and in some measure continue to play, in our local public health system,” Minister Cummings stated.
