CURACAO won a match in the CONCACAF Under-17 football Championship for the first time since it competed as the Netherlands Antilles more than 30 years ago, earning a 1-0 victory over Haiti to open the 2017 edition on Friday at the Estadio Maracana.
The result provisionally placed the Curacaoans second in Group A after hosts Panama beat Honduras 4-2 later in the evening.
Nathan Bernadina, who scored a team-high eight goals in Caribbean qualifying, netted the only goal in the 43rd minute.
The talented forward tapped in at the left post off a diagonal feed from within the box by Quincy Does.
Curacao returns to action on Monday against Honduras, while Caribbean champion Haiti will take on the Panamanians.
