Murray‘s century pilots Devonshire Castle to victory in T20 tournament

A COMMANDING unbeaten even hundred from Vishnu Murray highlighted the latest round of the Motielall, Jailall and Praboo Memorial T20 cricket tournament which wa played in North Essequibo last Sunday.
At the Walton Hall ground, Devonshire Castle continued their winning streak with a convincing 55-run finish over Young Achievers.
Batting first after winning the toss, Devonshire Castle amassed 245-2 from their allotted 20 overs, as Vishnu Murray’s brilliant 100 from 43 balls, which included 12 fours and 4 sixes, Navin Hurrel 79 (7×4, 3×6) along with Anthony Persaud’s 30 (3×6) contributed to the home team’s challenging total.
In reply, solid half-centuries from Shamesh Bridgemohan 70 (5×4, 4×6) and Tamesh Dhanpaul 54 (6×4, 3×6) kept the youngsters in the hunt for most of their innings.
Their dismissals, however, saw them collapse and end on 189-9 in 20 overs.
Controlled medium pace from captain Dinesh Chattergoon with 3-40 from 4 overs ensured that his team kept the ascendancy and a place in the last eight.
In the other game at the same venue, Gunners failed to fire against Walton Hall and lost by 5 wickets. Batting first, Gunners managed only 108 all-out in 15 overs, to which Walton Hall replied with 110-5 in 13 overs.
Meanwhile, at the Imam Bacchus ground in Affiance, Sparwin gained a walkover from Lima United while Imam Bacchus Sports Club easily disposed of Charity by 92 runs.
Imam Bacchus reached 236-4 in 20 overs batting first, with former National Under-19 opener Yogeshwar Lall stroking 67 (8×4) and Navindra Persaud contributing 45 (5×4). Charity SC then reached 140 for 5 in their 20 overs with Ryan Tang hitting 35 (4×4).
The preliminary matches have been completed, paving the way for the quarter-finals involving the eight top teams based on the point standings.
The annual tournament is sponsored by businessman Daramdeo Lall and played in memory of his three uncles who were former cricketers from the village of Walton Hall. (Elroy Sephney)
