Police Constable Joshua Ali appeared before Magistrate Rhondell Weever at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and with breach of condition of provisional license.
A police release detailed that the Constable pleaded guilty to both charges and was fined a total of $37,500. According to the police force, the Constable has since been transferred from the Traffic Department to the General Duties Section of the Guyana Police Force.
According to reports, on Monday, March 13, the cop slammed into a businessman’s pickup, which was parked in the corner of the road at Bush Lot Village, West Coast Berbice. The incident reportedly occurred at approximately 10:30hrs, when the cop was driving motor car PFF 4473 owned by Mahadeo Dhamon. The vehicle was reportedly travelling at a fast rate of speed when it crashed into motor pickup, PLL 8801.
