WEST Indies player and tournament MVP, Shemaine Campbelle smashed an even century and her effort was good enough to hand Berbice the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) female inter-county 50-over title on Sunday at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground.Berbice easily disposed of Demerara by 95 runs.
Campbelle’s unbeaten century was the backbone in Berbice’s total of 214-6 from 50 overs.
Campbelle faced 138 deliveries, with three fours and a six. She was supported by Katana Mentore, who made 54.
Melanie Henry (12) was the other batter to reach double figures, while 34 extras aided the Ancient County’s batting card.
Hema Singh was the best bowler for Demerara with figures of 2-34.
Demerara replied with 139-9 in their 50 overs, with June Ogle and Mandy Mangru being their principal scorers. Ogle top-scored with 40, while Mangru scored 24.
Off-spinner Plaffiana Millington captured 2-14 from 10 economical overs of mesmerising spin.
The win means Berbice have now won the title on four successive occasions.
Meanwhile, 22 players will be shortlisted soon for the Regional tournament billed for April 20 to May 14.
