POLICE are investigating an accident which claimed the life of 60-year-old Ivan Preme, who was struck down on the Number 1 Turn, Public Road, East Berbice Corentyne on Monday morning.
According to reports, Preme, a carpenter, left his lot 45 H and J Street, Albion home for a fishing trip and was on the way back home on his bicycle at approximately 09:15h, when he was struck down by a Toyota Wagon – HC 5720.

Preme was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he succumbed to severe internal injuries. His wife, 56-year-old Arai Preme told the Guyana Chronicle that her husband would usually come home 08:00h and as she was awaiting his arrival when she received the devastating news.
“Me and my son in the hammock when a boy come with a motorcycle and say he get accident. I hurry up and went to the hospital but I didn’t get to see him, his daughter did,” the distraught woman said.
Meanwhile, the driver of the motorcar, Jeff Roberts is in police custody as investigation into the accident continues. Earlier in the day, he was taken to the scene by Traffic Officer of ‘B’ Division Boodnarine Persaud, where he explained what led to the accident.
According to a police source, Roberts reportedly said an insect flew into his eye and he became distracted, resulting in the accident. Preme leaves to mourn his wife and two children.
