Essequibo mechanic dies in freak accident

A TWENTY-FOUR-year-old mechanic, Paul Durga, also known as “Anil,” died tragically on Saturday after a spring from an excavator he was servicing flew out and struck him in the chest and abdomen.Sister of the dead man, Nalini Mahadeo, said she received the news from another brother, Amit, who telephoned her around 02:00 hrs on Sunday.
After the incident, Durga was then taken by employees to seek medical attention but died on his way.
According to Mahadeo, Durga was simple, humble and kind-hearted and was working hard to build his house at Charity Squatting Area, Essequibo Coast.
Durga, she said, will be deeply missed, as he used to devotedly take care of his smaller brother and sister, as well as his mother who is 61 and is confined to bed through illness.
His employer, Mark Samaroo, of Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast, said he is assisting with the funeral arrangements and expenses and will provide financial assistance to the mother of the deceased,for as long as she is alive.
Samaroo also promised to help in the construction of the lower flat of Durga’s house, so that his mother could have a comfortable place to live.
With tears in his eyes, he said Durga was his best worker and his loss will be a difficult void to fill.
Durga leaves to mourn his mother and nine siblings. Burial is scheduled for today at Charity, Essequibo Coast.
The police have since launched an investigation into the incident.
