Dear Editor,
PLEASE be advised that I am in no way affiliated to any sports fraternity in Guyana and in no way can I be responsible for Mr. K. J. Yassin re-election as President of the Guyana Olympic Association. It was the respective representatives of every sports fraternity that voted for the gentleman. I believe they did so because they have confidence in his captaincy.
As a reminder, my position was an independent observer on the sidewalk who refused to allow anyone to launch an attack on the gentleman with Guyana’s failure to medal at the RIO 2016 Olympic Games. I stand by my word, we are all responsible. Had the attackers not used Rio as a grenade, I might not have said anything. However, on the other hand, if my contribution had any influence with the gentleman being re-elected, I am very proud of my accomplishment and tap myself on the shoulders.
The above is in response to Mr. A. M. King’s KN caption article ‘Can’t believe he said that’ and dated Saturday, January 7, 2017. I say to the author that I absolutely did not do any research on your name towards your contribution to sports in Guyana and I don’t intend to because I don’t have the luxury of time in doing so. I responded from what you wrote and as I said, your name is not popular from my coverage of athletics meet held at the Leonora Synthetic Track. Perhaps I have not attended any possible meet that you may have sponsored since President Donald Ramotar commissioned it.
Perhaps the meets that you contributed towards were held out of the city and unfortunately, my budget doesn’t allow me to go pass a certain village or region. I am more familiar with the South American 10k and a few others that usually start on Carifesta Avenue. I am familiar with Courts and I believe Neal and Massy 5 or 10k.
Regards
Trevor Pemberton
