A 42-year-old Tiger Creek miner was on Tuesday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for causing grievous bodily harm to his girlfriend.
Roy English was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which alleged that on December 31, 2016 at 3 Mile Junction, Tumatumari Potaro River he unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm to Yvonne Richmond.
According to police prosecutor, Deniro Jones the accused and Richmond lived together and shared a relationship. However on the day in question, English became annoyed when the woman tried to end the relationship.
English allegedly drenched his girlfriend with gasoline and lit her on fire. She was rushed to the hospital. The prosecutor disclosed that the victim suffered from second-degree burns to her right eye and foot and asked for the accused to be remanded.
Bail was refused and he was remanded until January 13, where he will appear at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court.
