… donates first place trophy and cash prize

ROHAN Auto Spares continues to lend support to the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club’s (KMTC) Annual Boxing Day horse race meet, scheduled for the club’s facility at Bush Lot Farm, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice on December 26, beginning at 13:00hrs.Yesterday, Managing Director of Rohan’s Auto Spares, Rohan Booj-Raj presented the winner’s trophy for the feature event, which is for horses classified `B’ and Lower over a nine-furlong trip, to Justice Cecil Kennard, at his Police Service Commission office on Brickdam, Georgetown.
In accepting the trophy and cheque, Justice Kennard noted that this is the 11th year that Rohan Auto Spares will be contributing to the event and it is in memory of Rohan’s sibling Gopaul, who died in a vehicular accident on December 26 (Boxing Day) in 2005.
Rohan Auto Spares is located at 843 Good Hope, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, and also has a branch at Number 64 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
The feature event of the eight-race meet will see the winner receive $1.2M and a trophy. The second-, third- and fourth-place finishers will earn $600 000, $300 000 and $150 000 respectively.
Two seven-furlong races are also set to be contested. The first being for horses that are West Indies-bred maidens and Guyana-bred H and Lower horses. The winner will earn $250 000, while the other top three finishers will take home $125 000, $63 000 and $32 000 respectively.
The other seven-furlong race is open to horses classified `G and Lower’ and the winner will collect $280 000, while the second-, third- and fourth-place finishers will receive $140 000, $70 000 and $35 000 respectively.
An `L class’ six-furlong race for non-winners will also be contested and the winner will receive $130 000, while the other top three finishers will earn $65 000, $32 000 and $16 000 respectively.
There will also be a five-furlong race for another set of `L-rated horses, but this will be in the open category and the same prize structure as the first five-furlong race will be in effect.
A six-furlong race for horses classified `E’ and Lower is on the cards and the winner of this event will trot home with $500 000, while the second-, third- and fourth-place finishers will earn $250 000, $125 000 and $63 000 respectively.
Two-year-old Guyana-bred maidens will compete in a six-furlong event as well and the winner will earn $220 000 while the other top three finishers will receive $110 000, $55 000 and $28 000 respectively.
The final race on the day’s card is open to horses classified `J and Lower and Two-Year-Old Guyana-bred horses.
The distance is six furlongs and the winner’s is $180 000, while the second-place horse will earn $90 000. The third- and fourth-place finishers will take home $45 000 and $22 000 respectively.
The races are being conducted under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority.
