UDFA/GT BEER CUP: HI Stars down Ward Panthers 3-1

IN THE latest results, schemer James Trotman netted twice and Michael Peters once to push Hi Stars to a 3-1 win over Amelia’s Ward Panthers, while Eagles United and Net Rockers played to a 0-0 stalemate when the group stage of this year’s Upper Demerara Football Association GT Beer Christmas football championship continued on Wednesday night at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.Playing the night cap of the double-header Trotman netted to push Hi Stars into the lead as early as the seventh minute against the Ward Panthers, and half-hour later converted a penalty after one of his teammates was brought down in the box.
With this conversion Trotman gave his side a 2-0 advantage in the 37th minute and held sway at halftime 2-0.
Michael Peters then made it 3-0 after play resumed for the Stars in the 50th minute as Marley Major was able to steady his play at the back line for the Stars.
However, Panthers’ Keshawn Dey reduced that lead when he made a good strike from the penalty spot in the 74th minute for the Ward team who eventually lost 3-1 in their first game.
The second game was scoreless but strikers Denzil Pryce and Shane Luckie were unlucky not to score for the Net Rockers as the Eagles’ defence was held firm through Teashiki Whitehead in particular, while Allan Halley played well for them on the forward line.
Tony Adams, as usual, was playing well for the Stars but could not find the back of the net.
