IT WAS exciting action as day one of the Diamond Mineral Water Indoor Hockey Festival came to an end on Wednesday at the National Gymnasium. Four games were played on the day in four categories.
In the Men’s category, Bounty GCC came up against Old Fort. GCC took the lead in the 14th minute courtesy of Peter DeGroot but Jason DeSantos equalised three minutes later to end the first half 1-1. In the second half DeSantos scored again but Devin Hooper equalised to end the game 2-2 in the 40th minute.
In the second game, Woodpecker Hikers faced Old Fort in a female matchup which finished 4-1 in favour of the Hikers. Latacia Chung scored a hat-trick while Nicole Eastman had the other goal for the Hikers. Minsodia Culpepper had the only goal for Old Fort.
The third game was also in the Men’s category with Pepsi Hikers leaving the Avengers looking to avenge a 7-goal loss difference. The game finished 8-1 with 6 different players scoring for the Hikers. Randy Hope and Robert Hope each bagged two while Andrew Stewart, Paramanand Dindial, Rayon and Aroydy Brandford scored one each. In the blowout loss Kevin Edwards scored the lone goal for the Avengers.
In the final game in the Veterans’ category Bounty GCC defeated Old Fort 4-2. Dwayne Scott and Devin Hooper each scored two goals for the GCC side. Christopher Low-Koan scored both goals for Old Fort.
