SHIEK Sadik, popularly known as “Iky,” a fruit vendor who operates his business in Queenstown, was on Friday afternoon robbed at gunpoint.
The 29 year-old vendor who runs the fruit stall with his mother, Jamilla Sadik, at their home, was robbed of an undisclosed sum.
Speaking to the Guyana Chronicle, Sadik said that around 16:34 hrs Friday, with the aid of a regular customer of the store, he was packing up some goods when a bandit approached him, placed a gun to his chest and grabbed what was in his pocket.
Subsequently, the bandit fired a shot in the air before making good his escape through Forshaw Street, Queenstown, said the fruit vendor.
Sadik’s mother explained that at the time of the robbery, she was attending to their dog at the back of the yard.

Footage seen by the Guyana Chronicle showed the man executing the act within a matter of 12 seconds before taking off on foot.
The woman who has been living there for over 30 years said that the family was attacked before.
“It is is not the first time bandits targeted us; three years ago Iky got stick up by a bandit right outside the store, but he fought off the bandit that time,” lamented the victim’s mother.
Asked whether this matter was reported to the police, Sadik said she had lodged a number of complaints, but to no avail.
Nevertheless, the robbery is being investigated and according to police sources, no one has been held for the robbery as yet.
