IVOR O’Brien, a former secretary of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) became the first Guyanese to be awarded the prestigious Commonwealth Order of Merit.O’Brien received the award for significant contribution to the Commonwealth sport movement. The award was conferred on the veteran sports administrator at a special ceremony in Edmonton Canada last month.
The ceremony was attended by Prince Edward of England and president of the Guyana Olympic Association among others.
