ASSISTANT Police Superintendent Jermaine Grant, who on October 4, 2016 caused the death of 65-year-old Anmanie Deonarine of 144 New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara when he struck her down on the Vreed-en-Hoop public road while driving PRR 4446, is this week expected to face a charge of causing death by dangerous driving after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) reviewed the case and recommended that he be charged, police have said.The incident occurred when the mother of three was a few houses away from her home. She was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Assistant Superintendent Grant, stationed within the Criminal Investigation Department of ‘D’ Division (West Demerara and East Bank Essequibo), was reportedly driving in a westerly direction when he lost control of the vehicle and it collided with the elderly woman.
Police said a breathalyzer test was conducted on the officer by Traffic Chief Dion Moore, and no trace of blood alcohol was recorded.
