Hooper grabs five for 76 on day-three

AN outstanding bowling effort from off-spinner Eon Hooper brought down the Singh XI side on day-three of their four day warm-up match against the Barnwell XI.With the Singh-led team resuming on 181-3 in response to Barnwell’s XI first innings score of 325, overnight batsman Raymond Reifer departed after adding only one run to his overnight score of 68,while his partner Shivnarine Chanderpaul coasted to his half century.
Reifer departed with the score on 190 and this brought out Anthony Bramble who partnered Chanderpaul to take the score to 226 before the latter was dismissed for 74(5x4s,3×6);nudging one behind to wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach.
Bramble then pushed on to make 30 (4x4s) while Sherfene Rutherford (27) and Akshaya Persaud (35) assisted the team in getting past the Barnwell XI total with a slender 43-run lead before they were all out. Hooper returned good figures of five for 76 from his 57.4 overs of which 26 were maidens.
Meanwhile, Robin Bacchus was the first wicket to go for the Barnwell XI in their second innings, contributing 15 to the score while Kevin Boodie contributed six more.
At the crease are Kandasammy Surijnarine on 26 and Chanderpaul Hemraj. On 16.Anthony Adams has so far taken two for 9.
The final day’s play will begin today at 09:30 hrs.
