Student charged with forging bank cheques

A 20-YEAR-OLD Morgan Institute student appeared in court on Wednesday before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan charged with forging bank cheques.The allegation stated that on September 20, 2016, Deoharry Odit conspired with others and forged a Republic Bank cheque of GYD$800,000, property of Naipaul Ramotar.

It is also alleged that on September 27, 2016, in Georgetown, Odit again conspired with others and forged another Republic Bank cheque valued at GYD$1.2M, property of Naipaul Ramotar.

Odit pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted $50,000 bail.

The prosecutor made no objection to bail; however, both parties have entered into a promissory note agreement where payments have already been made.

The matter was adjourned until November 14, 2016.
