Beavers win puts them in fourth place
BEAVERS FC jumped from fifth to fourth place in the points standings of the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) round of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/NAMILCO National Under-17 League which continued over the past weekend at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground, West Coast Demerara.
According to reports, Beavers came from two goals down to edge Eagles 3-2 and have stepped up one place ahead of Wales who are in the cellar position in the five-team league.
Glenroy Duncan and Mikel Small sent Eagles into the lead with a goal each within the space of five minutes. Duncan registered the opening goal of the contest in the 16th minute and Small then doubled the score in the 21st minute.
But Beavers’ Shaquille Richards reduced the score line with a 28th minute goal and Selbert Baptiste levelled it with a 40th minute goal.
Six minutes later Courtney Liverpool sealed the issue for Beavers.
With the victory, Beavers moved to fourth place with six points from seven matches. They won two and lost five with eight goals for and 22 against.
Eagles, on the other hand, remain third in the points standings with six points from two wins and two losses from their four matches to date. They have so far scored nine goals and conceded a similar amount.
Den Amstel continue to lead the points table with 18 points from six wins in as many matches. Slingerz are second with seven points from six matches with two wins, one draw and three losses.
Meanwhile, in the East Bank Demerara Football zone, Grove Hi-Tech edged Soesdyke Falcons 1-0 compliments of a Jamacy Benjamin’s 58th minute strike, while Yarrowkabra secured a walkover victory from Mocha Champs.
