CUSTOMS Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) Prosecutor Konyo Sandiford-Thompson and Defence Attorney Glen Hanoman both made their closing submissions to the court on Friday via paper committals in the matter against Barry Dataram and three others accused of trafficking narcotics. The submissions were made before Magistrate Judy Latchman, who in the next hearing on September 20, 2016, would make a ruling on whether or not the prosecutor has established a prima facie case against the accused.
It is alleged that on April 16, at Silver Dam, Fourth Avenue, Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, the defendants had in their possession 129.230 kilogrammes of cocaine (equivalent to 284 pounds) for the purpose of trafficking.
The illicit substance was found by CANU when officers raided the said property.
