PNCR to establish Resource Centre

-special congress to be held for party’s 60th anniversary

A MOTION has been passed, during the second day of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) party’s 19th Biennial Congress on Saturday, for the establishment of a resource centre to preserve the works of former and future leaders of that party.A statement from the party said the motion was passed during the afternoon session of the congress, which was chaired by James Bond, member of the central executive committee of the party. During that second session, party members took questions and deliberated on motions and resolutions submitted by its local and overseas groups.

Some 625 delegates and 275 observers from 140 groups participated at the Congress on Saturday. The first session was chaired by party Vice-Chairman Dr. George Norton.

The General Secretary’s Report was also delivered by the incumbent Oscar Clarke, who informed the congress of the party’s current state of affairs, the work of the secretariat, and other major activities that took place during the period of review. Clarke pointed to the Cummingsburg Accord, signed on February 14, 2015 between A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and the Alliance For Change (AFC), and stressed that “our decision was a correct one.”

The General Secretary also said the decision to form the coalition “indeed is the correct one for the future of our party; and in spite of our differences, our coalition Administration has begun to work together to solve the myriad problems which we inherited.”

Clarke, moreover, told delegates of the party’s plans for its 60th anniversary, which is to be celebrated on October 5, 2016. He said a “Special Congress” would be the centre-piece of the celebration, along with other activities across the country.

A plenary session chaired by party chairman Basil Williams during the first half of the day was addressed by President David Granger, also Leader of the PNCR; the Chairman’s Welcome and the Report of the General Secretary were also examined during that session.

The 19th Biennial Delegates Congress of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) began on Friday at that party’s headquarters at Congress Place in Sophia.
