THE body of a young soldier who was interdicted from the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) almost a year ago for absenteeism was discovered dead on Sunday under broken bricks in an abandoned structure in Quamina Street, Georgetown.The man was identified as 21-year-old Kevon McKenzie of Lot 970 ‘A’ Field, Sophia, Georgetown. The discovery was made a day after he failed to return home. McKenzie only recently got married. Police are awaiting the result of a post mortem examination.

According to reports, he left home Saturday morning to trim grass at a yard on Quamina Street, but never returned home. Subsequently, his body was discovered in the same yard. The man was last seen clearing the bushes and weeds from the old dilapidated concrete walls.

Residents said although persons traversed the yard often, McKenzie was not seen for the duration of the day. However, until Sunday night, the man’s mother and other relatives started a search since they found it strange that he did not return home. “I didn’t hear any unusual noise or hear anyone hollering, because if the wall fall on him at least he should have shouted,” one resident said. Other residents said they did not hear anything. The man’s relative are however suspicious about the circumstances that surrounded his death.
