Accused ‘recruiter’ on $400,000 bail

TWENTY-YEAR-OLD mason Shamar Morris of 60, Durban Street, Lodge was granted bail in the sum of $400,000, when he appeared before city magistrate Leron Daly on Monday, charged with allegedly recruiting 26-year-old Patrima Nima Isaacs to traffic 698 grams of cocaine out of Guyana between March 1 and July 3, 2016.The conditions attached to bail are that Morris has to lodge his passport at the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit and report there every Friday.

Ranks of the CANU were able to implicate Morris after Isaacs had been busted at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) with the drugs concealed in the handles of her handbag and in the form of sanitary pads that were placed between her legs.

Based upon the woman’s statements, CANU officers were able to arrest Morris, who had been on their radar for a while. Isaacs appeared before magistrate Leron Daly and was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment and fined $1.8M.
