Cutlass-wielding young miner accused of attempted murder

A MINER of White Water Village, North West District, was Friday remanded to prison when he appeared before city Magistrate Leron Daly on a charge of attempting to murder a man by chopping him with a cutlass. Henry Charles, 23, was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.
The allegation is that on Wednesday, August 10, at Toroparu Backdam, Cuyuni River, Charles maliciously wounded Ronal Edwards.
Police Prosecutor Inspector Kevin London, did not relate the facts to the court. However, he noted that the victim had received several chops to the back of his neck.
The magistrate upheld the prosecutor’s objection to bail and remanded the accused. The case will continue before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on September 8.
According to reports, both men are employed as pork-knockers for a mining operation in the Toroparu Backdam. On the day in question, the miners had a heated argument when Charles armed himself and inflicted the blows.
