One of the men who dressed as women to execute a robbery at a city Chinese store has been charged. Kurt Simeron, 21, was on Friday released on $70,000 bail for allegedly robbing a popular Chinese-owned store on Regent Street.
Simeron, of 21 James and Hogg Streets, Albouystown, appeared before city Magistrate Leron Daly and pleaded not guilty to a charge of robbery with assault.
Particulars of the charge alleged that on Tuesday, August 9, at Regent Street, Simeron together with others, assaulted and robbed Zhano Zhong Wu of US$200, G$30,000 along with an I-Phone 4 valued G$60,000.
The labourer was represented by attorney-at-law Dexter Todd, who requested that his client be released on reasonable bail, since he did not pose a flight risk.
Police Prosecutor Kevin London did not object to Simeron being granted his pre-trial liberty. Magistrate Daly ordered him to return to court on August 31.
According to reports, last Tuesday, Simeron along with three other men clad in women’s attire, entered the ‘Good Life Store’ on Regent Street and began inspecting items.
Two of the men had handguns and demanded that everyone in the store “go on the ground.” The men then relieved the store-owner of a quantity of money along with a cellular phone.
After the robbery, the men broke off into groups of two as they stormed out of the store. One group fled in a yellow motor car, while the others attempted to make good their escape on a Honda CG motorcycle
However, Simeron was allegedly nabbed by a public-spirited person as he was about to mount the motorcycle.
