A 28-YEAR-OLD female Venezuelan national was on Tuesday sentenced to three years’ jail by City Magistrate Leron Daley for the possession of ammunition.Pazsiso Pina admitted to having 10 rounds of .38 ammunition in her possession on August 1, at Arau Mountain Top, Essequibo when she was not the holder of a firearm licence.
Speaking through an interpreter, the mother of two begged the Magistrate for leniency, weeping bitterly as police prosecutor, Inspector Kevin London read the facts.
The court heard that police ranks acting on a ‘tip-off’ went to the house where Pina was staying and conducted a search. The woman’s bedroom was raided by the officers, and the bullets were found inside one of her bags.
“I want this matter to finish so I can go home,” Pina said with the aid of an interpreter.
The Magistrate, after hearing the woman’s plea, sentenced her to three years’ imprisonment, which is the minimum penalty attached to the offence.
