KEEN rivalry is anticipated on Saturday when cycle race coordinator Hassan Mohamed runs off the 13th annual Seven Seas 11-race cycle programme in the National Park beginning at 09:00hrs.Races will be staged for a number of age groups and will include Beginners who will complete the `Teach Them Young’ cycle programme tomorrow, but the feature event will be for Schoolboys, Novices and Invitational riders over 35 laps.
The feature event will be a thrilling one as all of the country’s top cyclists are expected to be part of the line-up. Andrew Hicks, Raphael Leung, Jornel Yearwood and Christopher Cornelius who all participated in the just concluded Junior Caribbean championships as well as the bigger `gunners’ in the likes of Marlon `Fishy’ Williams, Raynauth Jeffrey, Geron Williams, Raul Leal and Orville Hinds will be present, among others.
Last year’s feature 35-lap event was won by the young Alonzo Ambrose, who clocked a record one hour 18 minutes 49 seconds. Orville Hinds (Team Evolution) was second Jamal John (Team Coco’s) third while Akeem Wilkinson (Team Evolution), and Ambrose’s club mates, Paul Choo-Wee-Nam and Christopher Griffith rounded out the top six positions.
The five-lap race for Veterans Under-45 years of age will be a battle between Kennard Lovell and Junior Niles, while Linden Blackman is expected to make light work of his opponents in the five-lap race for Veterans Over-45 years.
There will also be a 10-lap race for Juvenile riders as well as three-lap races for BMX Boys 9-12 years old and a two-lap race for BMX Boys 6-9 years old.
A three-lap race for BMX Boys and Girls 12-14 years is also on the cards.
