FOLLOWING the execution-style killing of Orin David, called ‘Plait Hair’, on Monday afternoon outside his Lot 89 Laing Avenue, Georgetown home, ‘A’ Division Commander Clifton Hicken said that one person is in custody and a vehicle is lodged while sleuths are hunting for two other suspects.The senior officer told this newspaper that a black Fielder wagon, one of the vehicles used during the shooting, is lodged with the police and its owner was arrested pending investigations.
Hicken said that they know who they are looking for and they will be apprehended soon.
David, 33, who was said to be a taxi driver, was reportedly shot about his body several times on Monday afternoon by a man, following a row over money the shooter allegedly owes him. The assailant was reportedly accompanied by others.
It was reported by relatives that David had bailed a friend, who was identified since he was a frequent visitor to the Laing Avenue home.
David had asked him for the money many times but to no avail and was upset that he was not repaid in a timely manner and expressed his dissatisfaction when he encountered the individual on Emancipation Day.
The young man left and returned with others and it was then David was fatally shot after a brief exchange of words with the men.
At the time, David was liming in the vicinity of his residence when he was killed in full view of relatives and neighbours.
In February 2015 David was freed after being imprisoned for five years over the alleged 2010 murder of Mahaica farmer, Lakhram Bishundial.
Bishundial, called’ Mohan’, was fatally shot during a robbery at Hope Turn, East Coast Demerara.
He was on his way home from a city bank after he had withdrawn some money for a sibling’s wedding when he was robbed and killed by two men.
Subsequently, David and another person identified as Shawn Thom were charged for the murder, but Thom was freed a week before David.
David was well known to the police because he had several brushes with the law, including possession of an unlicensed firearm. (Michel Outridge)
