ANSA McAl is the latest company to ink its commitment to the upcoming Boyce and Jefford Classic, set for August 27 and 28 at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.During a brief ceremony yesterday, Ansa McAl’s Non-Alcoholic Brand Manager, Anjeta Hinds, stated that her company is fully on board for the seventh instalment of the event.
“We are a proud sponsor of the Boyce/Jefford Classic and we continue to be on board for the last seven years due to their phenomenal growth and for them keeping it in Linden,” she said, adding that their support is for the development of sports in Guyana.
“We look forward to all the participants competing and we could not pass up this opportunity to partner with this meet. I know it was launched already, but it is important for us to do this just to show that we are 110 percent behind the Boyce and Jefford Classic,” Hinds continued.
She said that the company also supports the efforts that are being made to help develop the ground. Ansa McAl has been a sponsor of the meet since its inception in 2010; the company was also the first to contribute $3M to the development of the MSC ground under its Stag Crown Your Community Project.
Meanwhile, one of the coordinators of the meet, Edison Jefford, thanked Ansa McAl for its continued support and indicated that the Championships this year will be the biggest so far with new countries confirming their participation.
“We started with a vision and a facility that offer very little to athletes and sport development and to highlight the importance of this and these types of sponsorship is to really assess where we started and where we are now and the courage of companies like Ansa McAl to support events like ours,” he said.
Overseas-based athletes Brenessa Thompson and Winston George who will be in Rio for the Olympic Games should arrive for the Classic with defending 800 metres champ Kevin Bailey also in the mix.
Athletes are also expected from Jamaica, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago and Antigua & Barbuda.
