Man remanded for possession of cannabis

A thirty-two year old mason appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Wednesday after he was busted by police for having over one pound of cannabis in his possession.Lennox Goodman of Lot 4, Archer Road, Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on July 23, at Brickdam he had in his possession 520 grams of cannabis, for the purpose of trafficking.

Goodman was represented by Attorney-at-law, Keavon Bess who requested for his client to be released on reasonable bail. According to Bess, Goodman is a single father of two minor daughters and is the sole breadwinner for his family, which includes his disabled sister and elderly mother.

Police Prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones objected to bail, revealing that on the day in question Bess had entered a city store along Brickdam to purchase a phone battery.

The store owner upon checking the phone discovered that it was stolen from one of his branches and alerted the police. Goodman was reportedly busted by the officers with the illicit drug in his possession after being subjected to a body search. He was remanded until August 25.
