CABINET on Tuesday did not arrive at a conclusion on the report which was presented to Minister of State Joseph Harmon on the inquiry conducted into the allegations of self-confessed drug lord Barry Dataram.Dataram had accused officials of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) of engaging in corrupted activities.

On Wednesday at the Ministry of the Presidency, President Granger said while the report was laid before Cabinet, a conclusion was not drawn. “It was not a significant matter that was discussed yesterday (Tuesday). It was laid before Cabinet but we have not discussed it or come to any conclusion,” the President emphasized.

Earlier this month, Minister Harmon was presented with the report by Brigadier Bruce Lovell, who had contended the probe.

Brigadier Lovell had said that the allegations made by Dataram were very serious and as such it was incumbent on the Government to carry out an investigation.

That investigation completed in two months.

“I am positive that the Government will find favour with the recommendations, as well as the conclusions and take the appropriate actions,” he said.

Earlier this year, Dataram spoke to reporters at HGPTV Channel 67’s Nightly News, confessing that he was involved in the drug trade and accused top CANU officers of being in cahoots with drug lords.
