The passing of Mr. Walter Willis

Dear Editor,

I LEARNT, with great sadness, of the passing of Engineer Walter Willis. To speak of Willis can either be done in a few short sentences or in volumes. I choose the former.I first met Walter on the Essequibo Coast, and I have had to interact with him on different levels and in different circumstances. Walter was extremely knowledgeable, and freely shared his knowledge and experience with both the young and old. He was a gracious general in his own department, and a super Guyanese patriot.

Walter’s passing is a great loss, not only to his wife, children and the rest of the family, but to the Engineering fraternity and the people of Guyana as a whole. It will not be easy to fill the void created by his untimely demise. I will miss his candour and eagerness to help at all times.

On behalf of my wife, Jennifer, and family, we extend sincere condolences to his wife, Dolly, children, and the rest of the family. My sojourn in Texas may not allow my
presence at his funeral, but I hope that he is put away with his traditional hat with which we all associate Walter as he moved around every part of Guyana.
