Coverden collision… Driver denies causing victim’s death, gets bail

FIVE months after 33-year-old Ann Mohamed was killed in a two-vehicle collision outside her Coverden, East Bank Demerara workplace, the driver of one of the vehicles was yesterday charged with causing her death.Rupert Douglas appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan to answer the charge, and was released on $300,000 bail after denying the allegation.
The court heard that on January 30, at Coverden, Douglas drove motor car PTT 1892 in a dangerous manner, causing Mohammed’s death. He is to make his second court appearance on July 11.

According to reports, Mohamed, of Soesdyke, EBD, had just left work at the Prairie International Hotel, and was awaiting a minibus when she was struck down.
One of the vehicles, motor pick-up GJJ 6458, was coming out of a driveway when it came into contact with the speeding car being driven by Douglas, causing it to go into a spin and slam into Mohamed, who was at the time attempting to run to safety.

She was pulled from under the pick-up by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where she subsequently died.
