Reputed ‘saltfish gang’ members, mother charged with larceny

A MOTHER and her two sons, purportedly members of the notorious “Saltfish gang”, appeared before Magistrate Alisha George at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday to face larceny charges.The woman, Mansoon Mohammed, who was charged with unlawful possession pleaded not guilty and was placed on $40,000 bail. Her sons Zaman Mohammed and Hazihidiri Mohamed of Annandale, East Coast Demerara (ECD) were charged with seven counts of larceny and break and enter. They too pleaded not guilty, while the prosecution objected to bail.

They were remanded to prison until July 27, 2016.

Police on Monday reportedly caught the duo during a sting operation.

The men are accused of a recent attack on two families of Good Hope, ECD on Saturday last, the latest victims of a series of break-ins in the community.

According to police, the gang is made up of a mother and six sons and they reportedly commit their crimes by administering sleeping gas to their victims in order to escape unchallenged with their booty.
