GUYANA seek control over their game today against Trinidad and Tobago when the South Zone of the Rugby America’s North (RAN) series climaxes at the Hasely Crawford Stadium Trinidad. This is according to coach Lawrence Adonis who said, “The style of play that we are using now is slightly different and much more successful for us because we’ve been able to control the games a lot better.”
Speaking prior to team departure on Thursday, the coach said the squad retains its core players but has opted to bring in some newer attackers.
“Mostly it’s some of the same guys that we’ve been using against Barbados and Jamaica but we have some inclusions like Kevin; we’ve changed up some of the forwards but mostly it’s some of the same,” said Adonis.
Meanwhile, much of the talk has been around the returning Kevin McKenzie who was drafted back into the squad with open arms, something coach Adonis hopes will prove crucial.
“He (Kevin) brings a lot of experience and he was one of the persons that we relied on in the past; he brings a lot of experience and a lot of the intangibles that we really need in the team because we’ve been blessed with some young players that we’re working along with some of the senior guys.”
He, however, urged against complacency adding , “I just don’t want people to get overconfident and think they have won. This game is always played on the park and you have to finish it on the park and I don’t want people to get overconfident.”
Today’s game begins at 16:00hrs and the winners will progress to face the North Zone Finalists.
The full squad reads: Kevin McKenzie, Richard Staglon, Ronald Mayers, Claudius Butts and Peabo Hamilton, Jason Tyrell McArthur, Rickford Cummings, Kevon, Jose Felicien, Dwayne Schroeder, Jamal Angus, Delroy Gordon, Ryan Gonsalves, Avery Corbin, Lancelot Adonis, Patrick King, Godfrey Broomes, Osie McKenzie, Cyon Kitt, Triton Brathwaite, Grantley Williams and Toby David.
